Risk Management Program

Physician Assurance’s risk management program is mandatory, but very beneficial to our policyholders. As a physician, you cannot afford the risk of choosing a medical malpractice insurer that does not meet the needs of today’s physician. As our society becomes more litigious each day, you need a company with strong risk management techniques that focus on loss control and places emphasis on preventing and mitigating “events” that could possibly become “claims.”

Traditionally, professional liability insurers have provided risk management programs to their insureds as an optional service. We require it. Our members benefit from the dual incentives of our loss control program: Enhancing one’s practice and enhancing the risk pool, ultimately strengthening their bottom line. The combination is powerful with decades of experience and literature to support this type of control program.

Risk Reduction

We concentrate on the traditional areas of risk reduction, meaning patient involvement and satisfaction, communication, documentation, and expectation management, but with nontraditional vigor.

Event Management

We have a program to help reduce claims that involves developing systems to manage information, documentation, and behavior after an event has occurred to help mitigate events and claims.

Litigation Strategy

Early evaluation and aggressive pursuit of claims will be executed using innovative litigation strategies.

Best Practices

Our risk management team will provide insureds with many strategies to help control risk through a combination of traditional risk management techniques and new innovative methods. Data collection through event management and analysis of every claim will help with developing educational programming for physicians and their staffs.

Collaboration

The SCMA will assist Stevens & Lee with risk management for Physician Assurance through its subsidiary, SCMA Practice Management Services.
